Wednesday, January 9, 2008 Ovation, A Day for the Arts at LWR
A new Signature Event is making its debut on the Ranch. Ovation will be a unique way to experience the performing arts. Ovation will be held at Lakewood Ranch Main Street on February 9, 2008. The street festival will highlight many of the performing arts and cultural establishments in Manatee and Sarasota Counties. The event is designed to appeal to all ages and a variety of interests. Live performances, special demonstrations and interactive displays will bring the Street to life. Some of the participants include the Asolo Repertory Theatre, Sarasota Ballet, Sarasota Opera, Florida West Coast Symphony, Golden Apple Dinner Theatre, and the Sarasota Film Society. Ovation will begin at 10 a.m. and continue through the afternoon until 4 p.m.
Admission is free but donations are encouraged; $5 for an individual, $10 for a family. All donations will benefit WUSF Public Broadcasting. WUSF is a trustworthy source for local and national news, in-depth reporting, educational programming, arts, culture and the finest in jazz and classical music. Staff members of WUSF will be on hand at the event to provide information about their programs and services. On-air personalities Carson Cooper, Coleen Cook and Susan Giles Wantuck will be there to meet and greet the crowd.
Lakewood Ranch chose to partner with WUSF because of its substantial commitment to promoting the arts throughout the greater Tampa Bay area. "The residents of Lakewood Ranch have a long tradition of appreciating the arts, and we as the community developer have tried to provide as many opportunities for involvement as possible," states Tom Danahy, president of LWR Communities, LLC. "We think that creating a climate that promotes creativity and provides entertainment is one of the most important things we can do for the long-term success and beauty of this community."
Ovation is a unique opportunity for individuals and families to see special performances from some of the most distinguished arts groups in the Sarasota/Manatee region in a casual and fun atmosphere. The day begins at 10 a.m. with a free screening of the Disney classic “Fantasia” by the Sarasota Film Society at the Lakewood Ranch Cinema. Seating is limited, so come early. A stage will be located on Main Street in front of the fountain, adjacent to MacAllisters Restaurant and will host the highlights of the event’s activities; sampler performances ranging from a brass ensemble from the Florida West Cost Symphony to a kid-friendly magic show presented by Camp Cigma. For a full listing of the participating organizations and a schedule of performances, visit www.LWRevents.com and click on Ovation.
Ovation is sponsored by LWR Communities, LWRLife Magazine, Northern Trust, Sarasota Arts and Culture Magazine and GEM: Global Electric Motorcars.
